“Wise man is the rooster of the universe: He awakens the unawake!” This quote is a metaphor comparing a wise person to a rooster. A rooster’s primary role is to awaken everyone at dawn, signaling the start of a new day. Similarly, in this context, a wise person’s role is to awaken those who are asleep in ignorance or unawareness.
The “unawake” refers to people who lack awareness or understanding about various aspects of life, society, themselves etc. They might be living their lives on autopilot without questioning their beliefs or actions or they might be ignorant about certain truths and realities. The wise man, with his wisdom and knowledge, enlightens them and brings them out from this state of unconsciousness into consciousness.
In today’s world filled with misinformation and distractions, this idea holds significant relevance. There are many people who live their lives based on preconceived notions or false information without questioning its validity. In such cases, individuals with wisdom have an important role – like that of the rooster – to guide others towards truth and understanding.
From personal development perspective too this idea has great value. Each one of us can strive to become that ‘wise man’ by seeking knowledge continuously and developing our understanding about ourselves and the world around us. Once we achieve some level of wisdom we can help others in their journey towards enlightenment by sharing our insights with them.
In essence, becoming wiser doesn’t just benefit us individually but it also enables us to contribute positively towards society by awakening those who are ‘unawake’. It encourages an ongoing cycle of learning and teaching which ultimately leads towards collective growth and development.
